While one’s 19th birthday is not quite so big as say 18 when one is no longer a minor, or 20, no longer a teenager, or 21, when deemed an “adult”, I haven chosen to commemorate my brother’s birthday last Saturday by posting photos of myself and my siblings on or after our 19th birthdays. I think it’s fun to compare photos of us and compare our youthful or adult appearances. I also like looking for the similar traits we may have inherited from our parents. Emily and I are often asked, when together, if we are related but many don’t pin us as sisters.
My 19th birthday was August 4, 2000. This photo is early October during Pumpkin Parade festivites at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College my sophomore year. As a sophomore I decorated the door of my senior (not the one behind me), we exchanged gifts, and I carved a pumpkin for her (with a very nice butterfly) which she would carry during the parade the next night.
Emily’s 19th birthday was June 18, 2005. This photo is actually just about six months later at Christmas. She became and auntie, traveled to Norway, then became a godmother at 19.
Michael’s 19th birthday was January 5, 2008. He, Emily, Sara Ellen and I spent the afternoon in Downtown Annapolis. We had a great time together. We got lunch, played on the playground, then explored a bit finding the Banneker-Douglas Museum. Michael visited Acousticopia. We wandered to Maryland Avenue and visited a nice bookshop before getting hot beverages at City Dock Cafe, oddly enough not located at City Dock. (And I didn’t spend any money!) With his long hair in a ponytail, and facial hair, I think Michael looks very cool and mature. But did I forget to mention he picked me up at the playground then gently dropped me on the mulch ground?
