Pilobolus October 25, 2006

What a GREAT night!!

Christine, Surayyah, and I went to the Warner Theatre in DC to see Pilobolus perform their 35th Anniversary Celebration.

Christine drove to my house from Wilmington and I drove us into the city. Driving in DC can make me very nervous but we had *plenty* of time and I wasn’t alone, huge help. There was a little detouring but we drove down the street the theater was on and parked in a garage (actually, it was valet) right there. There was also a Starbucks there too where we had our chai and waited for Surayyah.

We hung out and chatted about school for a while and headed across the street, bypassing the line for the box office and heading straight to our seats. The theater is pretty, we guessed from the 1920’s or so by it’s decor. They started relatively on time and from our high seats we had a good view of it all. Higher seats are better when it comes to seeing floor patterns. The pieces were unique from eachother so it was a great variety. I didn’t have a favorite piece, but the last one was really cool. All rock music, with crazy flying/falling. It used a mat on the floor. There was another, a duet. The man and woman started as and old couple and evolved into what I saw as different relationship phases and back to old age. It was cool, funny, and cute. We all agreed that Pilobulous has evolved from their more gymnastic, less dancy roots, becoming a famous modern dance company. Hopefully they’ll keep their roots in mind as they evolve. It’s still great.

It gave me so much motivation for dancing, for choreograhing the dance Emily and I will do at church on November 19th (9 and 11am). It also reinstilled my desire to be near a dance hub where I can keep growing and being closer to performing opportunities. I was bouncing when we left.

The drive home was almost as relatively easy as coming in, except for one significant difference, the lights didn’t come on automatically. I think the garage attendant turned them off manually and as I had not driven the car (my dad’s snazzy Acura) at night, I didn’t think to check for them. Driving through the city I could see just fine but another driver on New York Avenue let me know they were off. I didn’t know how to turn them on so I quickly restarted the car. When we got on the highway there was no light in front of me, they still weren’t on somehow, sheesh.

Tim and Sara Ellen visited his dad tonight and left around 4:30. I got home after 11. That’s probably the longest I’ve been away. Tim said she did ok and she giggled when she saw me. She’s so cute. She’s still happly toddling around (12:00 am), though she’s heading up the stairs…. Here I go too.

Did anyone else see Gilmore Girls just now? It ended so great! Christopher, Lorelai and Rory all driving together. It was simple and just so nice to see a happy family.

Watch Out October 23, 2006

Watch out world, Sara Ellen is walking! We’ve got a “toddler” in the house.

She also knows a couple words from her ABC book. Say “duck” and she will pick up her stuffed duck. Say “kiss” and she might give you one. :P

This Month So Far October 15, 2006

“Lost” - Blah. Tim heard on the radio ahead of time that more would happen in each episode than in all of last season. Oh, puh-lease.

Celtic Weekend at the Ren Fest - A little rainy, but I think that works for it. We saw a joust and a Scottish caber toss. Tim finally saw someone he knew. Usually when we go out, it’s I who meets a friend. On our way to the festival we had a little car adventure. We took the van because that’s where the carseat was. We’d had our car in the shop for stuff and though we’d gotten it back, the wheel made a weird noise so Tim wanted to avoid driving it. We knew there was a headlight out. On the main community road, there was a police officer just sitting in the lane, making traffic funky. He moved though still oddly placed and we passed him. Naturally, he pulled us over. He asked if we knew why, Tim mentioned the light. When Tim gave him the registration, it was out of date. Mom thinks she tore up the wrong one, though the stickers were up to date. He gave us a break on that but gave us a repair order. We went back home to take our car. Before we left, Tim checked the registration, from 2002!! We went back inside and Mom went online for temporary renewals. We finally made it out and had a nice time.

“Wine and Cheese Reception” with R-MWC’s Interim President Worden - Nothing earth-shattering. I didn’t hear anything that really made me feel better. I do however, feel for President Worden. She’s got a hard job to do and a lot of people are upset. Some women asked some good questions. One was about numbers, we don’t understand what we’ve read. That’s true for me and I don’t feel any differently now. I did learn that R-MC gave the right use use R-M when William Waugh Smith originally founded R-MWC. Now that the College will change, the right is being taken away. New name suggestions are needed. So far they have Conway College or Quillian College. I left at the scheduled 8:30 but it was still going strong. I saw Surayyah. Thankfully we’re going to Pilobolus so I’ll get to spend time with her. Sara Ellen did wonderfully. Making just a little noise, she played with my sweater, the sling, ate cheerioes and crawled around between Surayyah (two seats down, empty seat between us) and Katherine Anderson next to me. There was actually another baby who also did well. I had parked at the New Carrolton metro station and Sara Ellen did well going both ways, falling asleep before arriving on our way home.

The 14th is the Scottish Highland Games - honestly rather disappointing but a beautiful day and nice family outting before spending the evening with Tim’s parents and JP.

Also yesterday, Blythe moved to Charleston, South Carolina. I’m really happy for her but I’ll miss her.

Happy October. I think this is going to be an interesting month.

Wed, the 4th, “Lost” begins.

This coming weekend is the Celtic Weekend at the Maryland Renaissance Festival.

On the 11th I may be going into DC, to the Marriot Metro Center, for a “Wine and Cheese Reception”. R-MWC’s Interim President Worden will be giving talks to local alumae, shmoozing I imagine. I’ve decided to go and stand with my sisters for our College.

The 14th is the Scottish Highland Games at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds.

The 21st, us girls may go to a “Safe Halloween” afternoon ballet performance for kids (inexpensive and they won’t mind baby noises), put on by the Ballet Theatre of Maryland.

The 25th, I’ll be meeting Christine and Surayyah for a Pilobolus dance performance, also in DC.

I’m hoping I can visit with Barrie, yet again, in DC.

What we’ll do for Sara Ellen’s first Halloween I’m not sure maybe a pumpkin patch for cute photos.
