Thanksgiving (1)

This is labeled post one on Thanksgiving as I expect to report back after next week.

Wahoo! We have plans with the Pines. Tim and Chris both work at Opera. I didn’t say they work together because they are in different departments but it’s a small company and …

lasanga

I made lasanga for the first time for dinner tonight and it was yummy. I never knew those massive noodles would be so hard to cook though! For some reason there was an egg involved. I’m not sure why it was called for. And we sliced …

Dark

I know Norway is not the only country dark earlier in the winter, but it’s even earlier here. It’s just after 5pm and it feels so late. I *really* dislike this. I like the sun. In this country in summer. It is beautiful, warm, sunny …

More R-MWC

The R-MWC website offers the concise version of the challenges facing Randolph-Macon, it is called the Strategic Plan.

Since reading the email yesterday, I have been ruminating on what words to use which accurately describe my affection for R-MWC and my frustration over the challenge it faces.

It is an understatement that Randolph-Macon Woman’s College is important to me. In high school I did not give much thought to college except as that which followed high school graduation and was a hope and expectation, but I did not feel pushed to get to college and “make something of myself”. When it came to looking, my view was on those offering dance. I did not apply to 5-10 schools and I don’t remember even preparing for the SAT’s. I got average test scores and applied to two schools, R-MWC and Radford University. I had actually auditioned for a dance scholarship and acceptance to Goucher College’s Dance Department but no more came of that.

Happy Birthday

By the way, Happy Belated 22nd Birthday to Barrie who I hope got to celebrate yesterday.

R-MWC

I’m not in a state of mind to discuss this now, but R-MWC sent out an email sharing their studies about bringing in more students/money. I’ll discuss it later, but here is the letter if you’re interested in the issues facing single-sex colleges.

Food

Ha! I made banana bread and it’s great! The last time i attempted bread (sometime within the last two years) I used 1 tbsp instead of 1 tsp of salt and it was terrible. But I had really ripe bananas and that’s what you do with them, …

The comment to my previous post asked about our Christmas plans. Well, first of all, I’m having a baby!

Mom arrives in Norway on Dec 2nd, with the intent to share the birth experience and help us adjust. Then Dad, Emily, and Michael arrive in Norway on …

I LOVE Thanksgiving food. Who doesn’t?

Today I went to the American Women’s Club Thanksgiving Luncheon today. They also had a Craft Bazaar. The food was grreat, I got a present for myself and for Mom, and borrowed a bunch of books from the AWC library (Grisham and …
