“Introducing the Altman’s”

During our tour of El Camino Hospital, Olga, one of our midwives, suggested writing a letter of introduction for the nurses. It’s not what’s usually understood as a birth plan. It is not a list of “don’t”‘s, trying to control what is not controllable. It is a letter letting them know who we are, and how we would prefer to experience the hospital and begin our daughter’s life. I wrote it, and typed it up today using the Pages application and a newsletter template. It was fun making it personal.

This is neat that they care enough for you to do this. They lost my medical records at UVA. I also never knew about the Vitamin K ointment until you shared. I hope the rest of your pregnancy continues to go well!

I did visit UVA once while lived there. I only had a minor burn on my hand but it hurt a lot and they seemed disorganized. A bunch of people were “helping” me and they didn’t seem to be communicating with eachother.

Actually, the eye ointment is antibacterial. Vitamin K has to do with blood clotting I think and that isn’t voluntary, at least it doesn’t depend on my health to decline it as the eye drops or ointment does. I’m glad I can because I’ve always found it so icky, and like a little barrier between you seeing your baby.
