We’re Moving – Again: California Here We Come
I lived in the same house in Annapolis, Maryland my entire childhood. The only time I moved [some] of my belongings anywhere was into a college residence hall, and I was eighteen at the time. I knew I wanted to be married and have children as an adult but I didn’t want to live anywhere in particular. However, I never imagined I would have moved four different times before my fifth wedding anniversary!
We visited California (Silicon Valley, south of San Fransisco) in late January to see if it was somewhere we wanted to live. I wasn’t swayed but after Tim received a great job offer from Apple, we thought about it and decided not to pass it up. It might be God sending us a life raft (like that story), so here we are, trying to find someone to take over our lease and getting ready to pack up again and move across the country. At least we won’t be *out* of the country this time.
I’m hoping and praying this is a great thing for us, that we’ll get into the community, find a church, good school, dance, friends, etc. I wondered to Tim if maybe we didn’t get any roots in CVille because we’d be here only temporarily. At least I hope that’s the case, that we’re not just hermits. I did enroll Sara Ellen in The Little Gym classes here. The semester runs until May 31 but because we’re leaving two months early, Sara Ellen now gets to take gymnastics 3 days a week! She loves it.
We’re not happy about leaving friends and family on the east coast. Hopefully we’ll enjoy our adventure enough to ease the change. Tim will be working, taking an Apple bus to Cupertino. I don’t want to live in that area. It’s all houses and businesses. I really want to live in Saratoga or Los Gatos. They are much quieter, more naturally green and seems slower. There is a great park in downtown Saratoga and a nice downtown area in Los Gatos a short drive away from the more average shopping areas. The schools should be better there too as it requires a higher cost of living which hopefully we can swing.
I am looking forward to nearby attractions. We saw very little of San Fransisco, we’d also like to go farther north to see the Redwood forest and not much further I have an uncle and close family friends, they are like family to my father. I also have a great friend in the Los Angeles area, which happens to near Anaheim and Disneyland! Also, not so secretly I hope visit [Forks,] Washington since we’ll be on the same coast. We also have a friend there who it would be nice to see.
Some day we’ll probably make a road trip between the two coasts, but that will not be on our move over. We’ve got a deadline and need to get settled into the area. The company will help us find a new home [to rent] and get accustomed to the area. I’m almost certain we’re taking our car with us, but the movers will bring it. Though apparently it’s a good time to buy houses and cars, they still cost a lot so we’ll save us for a while first. Just so you know, we won’t have a permenant address right away. Whatever does get mailed to Charlottesville will be forwarded by “General Delivery” to a local post office where we will have to pick it up. We may get a post office box, and we will let you know when needed. Please keep us in your prayers!
I hope you will be happy in California, and that Tim will love his new job at Apple!
