Past Midnight

It seems fortuitous that I got caught up in reading Eclipse tonight. When I put it down near midnight, I couldn’t fall asleep. I sent Tim a “good night” text, he’s off in California until Saturday, and then he called. When we hung up I tried to keep my eyes closed but imagined Jasper teaching vampire battle techniques. A little bit later, Sara Ellen sits up in the dark saying, “Mommy, come back. Don’t leave.” Not sure what she was dreaming about there. I pat her arm and she climbs in with me. An hour after I turned off the lights, she starts crying and gets sick, thankfully and the opposite side, not on me. I suppose it’s insensitive but I’m thinking “gross” and “I’m glad it didn’t get on me!”. I’m all by myself (I’m not going to wake up my parents, duh) and trying to figure out how to get her and the bed cleaned up.

After trying to get her clothes off and thinking about getting others on, she finally decides she *does* want to take a bath. She wants barely any water and just sits there. I give her some time before I wash her hair, which is really the necessary part, then get her dressed while she shivers and complains. I get her under the covers, and deliver blueberries before I take off the fitted sheet and excellent mattress protector. It’s guaranteed and if the mattress still gets messed up we’re supposed to get some sort of refund. So, our sheets are at the townhouse and I don’t want to search for any so I put down the flat sheet and the blanket and quilt over that. I’m actually glad she was on the big bed because I don’t have so many options for her little mattress. I cleaned off the sheet in the bathroom but don’t feel comfortable leaving the room to do laundry so I let it go until tomorrow. After I read to her and play our bedtime song (“Puff, the Magic Dragon”), I let her lie there while I continue reading. Then she wants to watch a movie, “fine”.

So far, she’s watched “101 Dalmations” and is now on “The Iron Giant”. She’s gotten sick a few more times. While I know how scary and painful for the stomach it is, dealing with her screaming while trying to keep a bowl in place isn’t any easier. So, I’m thankful I’ve been wired as I near the end of my wonderful book. After an empty stretch, I’m getting a few more thoughts up here. I still want to write about a certain movie (from last month) and dance performance (from this week), just need to get more thoughts together.

I am very sorry you had to deal with this! I know how hard it is, and how painful it is to see your child sick.
Could you give me info on the mattress protector?
