Twilight Jacket Fiasco

While Tim called my final project “a nice 1st attempt for a project so complicated”, I’m not very satisfied with my jacket.

I really wanted a jacket, or shirt to celebrate the making of the wonderful book Twilight in the movie coming out on November 21. I wanted to wear the jacket and my earrings (which did turn out well) to the midnight premier which I plan to attend with several girlfriends. Hot Topic sells the official shirt and such but they cost too much and I wasn’t thrilled with the photos.

I’ve searched the net for pictures I could use on my jacket. There tons, TONS of pictures, of varying sizes. Only those well over 1000mg are any good. They really have to be huge to show up well as a large print. I finally decided on a picture (while questioning potential copyright issues) and purchased transfer paper for dark stretchy fabric on inkjet printers. When I printed the pic, it turned out darker and a little unclear but I finally decided to use it because I liked it so much and took so long to choose.

I finally bought a jacket but it turned out wrong. I bought medium, but large would be more comfortable. I really wanted a zip up jacket but a pullover would be better because I decided to print the title on the front. It didn’t turn out so well on either side of the zipper as I’d hoped.

I also made it a little too cluttered. My original iron-on transder idea came from Support Midnight Sun.com. They are sending love and encouragement to Stephenie Meyer to encourage her to continue writing the story from Edward’s perspective. Their logo is facing the wrong way on the left arm. I also wanted to advertize TwilightMOMs. The super awesome forum where more mature female readers share they obsession over everything wonderful about Twilight. The logo is too fuzzy because I messed it up, also facing the wrong way on the right arm.

Now what? I can’t change it…. I’ll likely still wear it.

Watch for a new Twilight Saga website theme! It’s going to be beautiful.

Your new website theme IS really beautiful :)

I can empathize with feelings of disappointment when you are trying to create something that will project how much you love the subject matter, but I like your jacket :) It has a punk rock charm to it. It reminds me of a lot of patchwork jackets I had as a teenager lol covered with simple band patches that thoroughly had that home and handmade feel- which I think shows your dedication and admiration better than anything store bought! All you need are some buttons to complete the look LOL

Technical or materials mastery issues can’t diminish the overall statement, and yeah, I think it is cute :) (I am working on a scarf myself HA!)

I am so loving my new theme. I REALLY appreciate your sympathies. I think mostly b/c the jacket is small/uncomfortable, I’m dismantling it. :-/ Emily is working on fingerless gloves (I’d love if she made me some), I’ve got my earrings and I’m expecting the Alice choker and Esme cuff from Amazon soon! Unfortunately, and yet fortunately, the transfer paper came off a lot on it’s own in some places and otherwise I’m basically stabbing my fingers pulling it off. It’s going ok and if I finish and the jacket still looks ok, then I’ll return it.
