Cars

I enjoy driving. I don’t like traffic, but there is something about having a car and driving yourself around that can be very pleasant. We don’t have a car here and I have no desire to try and learn a foreign system and patterns. I’m very comfortable taking public transportation and it is extremely convenient and reliable. But I got a special treat tonight, a simple pleasure.

After spending a few hours with my new friend Laura, Tim and I had dinner a another couple’s house, Chris (Welsh) and Vibeke (Norsk). Not only did Vibeke give me her used mamma clothes which I’m really thankful for, Chris drove us home. And driving down the unknown highway and then through the town I know, there was something nice and also comforting about riding in a private car. I felt more relaxed, I didn’t have to get myself around town. It made the surroundings look like any other place, any other city highway. It was devoid of the converations of strangers and was quiet, no bus/tram/train noises, just us talking. The second I managed to get myself out of the car in front of our building’s door, it was back to normal. I really enjoy driving or riding around and though I don’t like traffic, I think I am looking forward to having a personal vehicle again.

Chris and Vibeke have a 2 yr old son, Owen, and Leah, who is 3 months old now. Tim has had very little exposure to babies, and really children in general so I think this was a good preview. Crying and all. :)
