On this day in 2004
I woke up with a headache, ate breakfast, took a bath, and did my own hair and makeup. I could have dressed myself but decided to have fun and let Emily, Mom, and Sara help put on my wedding gown. I put on my veil and came into the living room where Uncle Michael took photos of me with my family and bridesmaids. People had been coming and going. Dad picked up a rental car but exchanged it, I thought the Dodge Magnum too station-wagony. Someone picked up an order from Grump’s for the after-reception dinner for family at our house. Someone picked up, or Jan dropped off flowers. My aunt took stock of what things needed delivery to the church - bubbles, going away bag, etc. Then… we waited. We hung around, Sara fed me a bagel, I sat on the pretty loveseat trying to get a deep breath despite my dress. When it was time to go, I maneuvered myself and my dress into the front seat of the Pontiac Grand Prix and Sara (and Emily?) rode with me and Dad to church.
Tim was waiting for me in the parlor and we spent a few minutes together. Then the wedding party and parents got lots of photos taken. As people arrived Tim and the men waited “backstage” and I went to the parlor with the ladies and Dad via back stairs to avoid arriving guests. At 2pm, we had a wedding. Then we had a reception. After dancing to “Beyond the Sea” I went to get changed, though Tim was for the moment unaware of the schedule. We met up and came out to cheers and the Grand Prix trailing streamers, cans and window messages like “Oslo or Bust”. We drove away and spent three relaxing days at the Kent Manor Inn on Kent Island before embarking on honeymoon travel.
Planning a wedding is a whirlwind, having a wedding is an exciting whirlwind, and being married is wonderful, and often whirlwindy.
This evening we enjoyed another date night. Sara Ellen spent the evening with Tim’s parent’s and Aunt JP while we enjoyed dinner at Olive Garden (paid for by a gift card). Tim got dessert to go and I got iced chai at Starbucks. Then we visited a bank (where Tim started communicating to the ATM in an asian character language), then Target for sundry items and returned to the Altman’s to pick up Sara Ellen. They reported having a great visit and we brought home a cake made by Jan. We also visited our storage unit on the way home to get ready for our respective trips. I have been planning for a drive with Sara Ellen to Lynchburg and it has successfully made me forget Tim is leaving Friday for Norway in two days!
