Pointe
I’ve been asked to understudy a dancer in Ms. Easter’s ballet! She’s upset with this girl because she’s missed so many rehearsals, one more and she’s out. I was pretty surprised she asked because this dance is on pointe and I am not practicing pointe.
I tried on a pair of Emily’s old shoes last night, a pair which was too wide for her (as my feet are wider than hers). It was the first time in about four years I have worn pointe shoes. The last time was senior year in college when I said I wanted to do a ballet if not enough ballerina’s auditioned. I thought it look easy on video so I auditioned and spent money on shoes. I wasted my money though because it had been five years before then that I’d last danced on pointe! I could barely bourre (small steps on pointe) and certainly would not be able to do what turned out to be a complicated dance.
Last night however, I was wearing old, broken-in shoes. My feet and ankles are probably stronger now too since I’ve been taking ballet for a year now and senior year, I was just getting back into it. Anyhoo, the part in the ballet is really simple so if I’m needed, I should be fine.
Just three weeks of class left before we get down to rehearsal weeks, no class, just rehearsing. I’m really excited about the recital.
ooohh, fun! I still have my last pair of pointe shoes (probably from my last year of HS, I think) and I break them out and dance around the house every so often. Then I spend the next couple days wincing with bruised toenails and blisters … Hope you’re more successful at your revival than I usually am at mine!
