I, Miss America
As I expected, the IMA brunch this morning was way more fun that the AWC meeting with the older ladies. One of my peers and I agreed there is an amount of cliquishness. However she also recognized that those women our age span will also stick together and be the older ladies some day who may or may not spend much attention on younger ladies. That however would be following the norm that I don’t like and one of my reasons for not wanting to be on the Board as Secretary. It turns out that the point of the club is to hang out with American women and have fun. That’s all well and good but I think it would be even better to offer support to the younger/newer women. When I came here I didn’t know anything and it would have been nice if a more acclimated woman had gotten in touch with me and invited me places.
That’s kind of where IMA came in. The ladies are in my age range, and the longest resident has been here 7 years, not 20! There are monthly brunches around town and activities we arrange ourselves that are far more interesting than those with the older ladies. Today we met at a new cafe in my neighborhood. I’ve discovered a new source for croissants and chai!
Yum. I want to go back because they have a decent size menu too.
