Poor baby
Sara Ellen has another UTI.
We thought maybe she just had a cold since that can cause a fever but it got higher so we took her to the doctor after monitoring the temperature and again yesterday because it got higher. She looked fine still on the outside (ear, throat, etc.) so they took blood and urine samples. She was a little on edge anyway and this just made her so mad. She was screaming and crying, and after being there two hours, could get upset when someone just walked in, anticipating being poked and prodded.
Now that she’s on her second infection we may go to a Children’s Hospital for tests. The ultrasound we did before showed no damage to her kidneys. I don’t know if they are always potentially at risk or if she gets certain kinds that don’t reflux so far. So the new tests, whenever they are set up, would check to see how her particular reflux operates.
I’ve read ways it can be prevented but I’m not sure how much we can do at this age. I have this “vision” of it being a problem we’ll have to deal with. However, we’ve heard or read that babies can grow out of them, perhaps because of the preventive measures that are possible for older children. I sure hope this is true for us.
Yay! It’s not a UTI! I just spoke to the doctor and he’s calling it an unexplained virus because the urine culture from Friday came back negative for bacteria. He told me before that a common cold doesn’t raise white blood cell levels but Tim, who has had a bad cold said it feels a little unusual so maybe that’s what she had.
