Baptism

It’s finally scheduled – April 30 9am Calvary United Methodist Church. Sara Ellen will be made part of God’s Family and we will commit to guiding her towards Him. From what I read this is actually a mix of the sacrament of Baptism and Christening, preparing the child to be a member of the church – physical and spiritual. This is how our, if not all Methodist churches do it. Later on, teenagers are Confirmed and made members.

I am not really opposed to this but from my experience it doesn’t seem to work as planned, at least the confirmation part. I was 12 or 13 when my parents asked I take Confirmation class and become part of Calvary Church (the same for my siblings and probably most of the people in the class). It was not for another 3-4 years that I chose to accept that I and all of us are born sinful in a sinful world and only Christ can change that and became a member of the spiritual church. This life change takes place for different people at different times. I can see now that I was in fact prepared in order to accept God as He had chosen me.

We chose my sister to be Sara Ellen’s Godmother. This means that Emily will take extra special interest in our daughter’s spiritual growth, helping us to guide her until she makes her own decision and supporting her from then on.

I think it’s neat that Rev. Brought confirmed me, married me and Tim and will now baptize our daughter.
