Nursing
After three months I have finally found acceptable nursing bras. Some mothers find them unnecessary but I like them. I got some last June but naturally, I got bigger. I got a few in Norway, some from H&M which I do not recommend at all, and one from a store there called Baby Shop which was better quality fabric but and more supportive than those from H&M but not enough. A couple weeks ago I got two from Motherhood which were recommended. They did fit but I didn’t test their functionality, the coverage was too deep and when leaning over I fell out… nonreturnable.
I went back today and here is my checklist:
- Know your size. Measure under the bust for the band size. Measure around the bust and get the difference between the two, this is the cup size.
- Make sure you get the coverage you want and enough support so the back strap doesn’t ride up.
- The hook should be easy to use.
- You might be a nursing machine, but you can look and feel good at the same time.
Then there are nursing clothes. I’m still working on a wardrobe for for my new lifestyle. So far I have found nursing tops to be too complicated despite keeping your belly covered. While they seem simple enough, I find lifting up my shirt even simpler.
I’ve always been a modest person and though my self-perception may have changed, others will likely still “see” a woman lifting up her shirt so I take care to be discreet. Sara Ellen basically covers me but I often hold her hand to keep it from pushing my shirt up.
Dresses are another issue. My dresses are for warmer weather so I wouldn’t wear them now anyway and have a few months to make or find some. They need to be functional and obviously, look good. So far I’m wearing skirts with tops and cardigans. However, tops that fit before now have more to cover and I want top pieces which do not hit right at my hips but something a little longer . This may have something to do with the slight widening of my waistline. A shorter waist looks stockier.
