A Week in the Life of Mom and Baby

Wonder what Sara Ellen and I do all day? It may not seem very eventful but it sure does take energy and can get exciting as my little one develops. As you read, please don’t ask how often I feed or change her. My answer will be “whenever she needs it”. Our day would also be a little different if I were making dinner every night. We also see Tim more as he works from home and we visit as he takes breaks.

    Monday, March 27

  • 7:30/8:00 am – out of bed to share morning smiles with her grandparents and because Mom really needs breakfast
say hello to Aunt Emily before she returns to Anne Arundel Community College after her spring break at 8:30
    hang out a bit
  • 9ish? am – go upstairs to get something then lie down for a little nursing and end up napping until at least 11am
  • Noonish – hang out with Grandmommy for tv and lunch
  • 2:30/45 pm – Baby falls asleep and Mom is antzy so they go for a stroll up to Blockbuster to return dvd’s from Friday (Hitch and Elizabethtown [good!]). About 1 hour round trip. Baby wakes up after first leg of stroll but is happy in stroller until only two blocks from home. Yay!
  • 4:00pm – Watch Jane Austen’s “Persuasion” on VHS. I read the book last summer and found this movie to be a really close adaptation.
  • 6pmish – Eat dinner, watched some of Charmed and Law and Order.
  • 8:00pm – Leave sleepy baby with Grandmommy and go to Starbucks for fantastic chai before picking up Aunt Emily at dance… only to wait longer until 9pm, than expected.
  • 9:00pm – On arrival home Dad is walking Baby around because as usual she won’t stay asleep when he sits. Feed Baby and watch more Law and Order before computing and going to bed around 11:00pm. Except Baby is awake now and using Mom’s very soft belly as a drum with her feet. Attempt to feed her and play with her for a while. After switching sides a few times, she begins to fall asleep.
  • Tuesday, March 28

  • 7:30/8:00am – extra drinks for Baby that make her wke up happy before getting out of bed for a diaper change and because Mom’s belly/bladder has been a treadmill for Baby. Those legs are strong. Shower and dress while Dad plays with Baby.
  • 8:30/9:00 – Mom gives Baby a second diaper and dresses her. Breakfast with Grandmommy then watching what might be the first roll-over!
  • Morning – A little wrestling with Baby while Mom “computes”. Wrestling gets to be too much probably because Baby has been awake for two hours now and needs a walk before getting a nap. Morfar (aka Granddaddy) gets home from dropping off Uncle Michael and the gym and takes Baby for a walk around the house. Mom returns to computing. Morfar leaves for work, Mom gets Baby back, no more computing.
  • 10amish – Convince Baby lying down is good when tired and get her to attach. Watch Sleepless in Seattle.
  • Noonish – Mail and FedEx. A playmat with all kinds of goodies arrives and captures Baby’s attention! Mom thrilled! Baby plays while Mom computes.
  • 1:15 – Mom and Baby go to pick up Aunt Emily from Anne Arundel Community College. About 60% of the time, Baby does not like her car seat. Naturally, she’d rather be held or at least see someone. It went ok though. I attached one of her new toys and sang to songs on the radio so she could hear my voice. She fell asleep at some point and stayed that way as I circled campus waiting for Emily. When I stopped Baby made noise so I when we stopped for an errand at church, Emily got out and I circled. For another at Safeway I took her out and while we waited for Grandmommy’s prescription we got Starbuck’s chai.
  • 2:50pm – She cried on the way home from Safeway and once home slurped up milk happily.
  • 3:15pm – Mom left Baby with Dad to pick Uncle Michael. She was awake being held by Dad when Mom got home 30 minutes later.
  • 4:00pm – Watch Air Force One and Baby falls asleep.
  • Dinner at dinner time, which Grandmommy delivers to Mom as Baby eats.
  • 8:00 pm – Law & Order, the most interesting one I’ve seen. Dad, Mom and others watch baby play and turn herself around on mat by rolling to one side and back.
  • 9:00 pm – Gilmore Girls rerun as they refresh our memories for the coming weeks “fresh episodes”.
  • 10:00pmish – Mom and Baby head to bed
  • Wednesday, March 29

  • 8:15am – Mom and Baby get up. Mom has breakfast while Grandmommy plays with Baby.
  • 8:30 – Baby wants breakfast. Grandmommy and Mom hang out for the morning. Mom and Baby talk a walk around the yard in the fresh air then nurse to sleep.
  • 11:15am – Mom, Baby and Grandmommy pick up Aunt Emily and head for the mall. Have lunch at the Nordstrom Cafe and go to JCPenney. Grandmommy gets her hair cut while we go to Motherhood for better nursing bras.
  • 2:15pmish – Get home
  • 3:30pm – Watch Ever After: A Cinderella Story.
  • 5:00pm – take Uncle Michael to church then go for semi-weekly visit with Nana, Papa (Tim’s Dad and Step-Mom), and Aunt JP who just live 25 minutes away.
  • 9:00pm – Home in time for LOST. Dad takes a turn holding Baby.
  • Bedtime
  • Thursday, March 30

  • Quiet Lazy Day
  • Evening – Dad and Mom “interview” Aunt Emily about her faith and talk about what we want in a godparent. Satisfied with her answers, her age, and likelihood of her being around, we finally choose a Godmother.
  • Friday, March 31

  • Late Morning – Email friends and family about baptism. Go to the storage unit with Grandmommy and Aunt Emily. Find clothes and shoes.
  • Noonish – Get lunch at Johnny Rockets. Sara Ellen stares at two men dining nearby and then a bright red ketchup bottle in front of her while sitting with Aunt Emily.

you sound content :) just enjoying your baby girl and your family, sounds like the best day to me!
I love my life but I do miss my family and those little day-to-day family chores like picking up my sister from practice or grocery shopping with my mom — it’s amazing the things you miss, so enjoy, enjoy, enjoy and cherish each moment :)
